Using Twitter As A Learning Tool

Personally, I have never been a huge fan of Twitter. I never really got into the whole “tweeting” phase that many other people my age did. However, I have heard that it can be a great tool to use for learning. Also, a lot of people in the Recruiting Field (which I am a part of), use Twitter to advertise their jobs. Therefore, i thought it was about time to do some research on how I can utilize the site.

This article called “Using Twitter As A Learning Tool”, explains why you might want to use Twitter as a Learning Tool.

Some of the reasons are as follows:

-Relevance To Content
-Bring Current Events into The Content
-Access and Mobility
-Bite Sized Efforts
-Curation of Content

The number one reason that I thought Twitter would be a great tool to use for learning that I gathered from this article is the idea of “Curation of Content”. The article explains that this means that by using the #hastag, students or employees could search tweets by other previous student/employee cohorts and share information, resources and references. This increases their learning community!

Has anybody tried Twitter for elearning? How has it gone for you? What are some pros and cons you have found from using Twitter as a learning tool?
